Monitoring is, and always has been, one of the simplest ways to get information. Its systematic, continuous, and regular exercise promotes an accumulation of information capable of motivating actions and decisions. It is not by chance that the Santos Basin Beach Monitoring Project (PMP/BS) has been breaking numerical barriers, either because of the number of animals recorded or by the fact that we recorded species that were apparently not seen there regularly.Due to the fact that it is an environmental condition from IBAMA to Petrobras for the exploration, production, and flow of oil and gas, there is a need for standardization and transparency in the data generated, in such a way that through the daily monitoring effort, the occurrence and mortality records are very close to reality. It should be noted that in addition to species recording, we also record ecological relationships and disturbances evidence, especially in interactions with human activities. Records of interaction with human activities, especially fishing, are pretty common and reflect an imbalance in the exploitation of natural resources.Laguna is no different from the rest of the Brazilian coast, full of conflicts and challenges.Long-term actions such as PELD and PMP will contribute to understanding the environmental picture of the Laguna Estuarine System, allowing the proposal of ecological alternatives for the coexistence among species.
